Okay, so what exactly are we doing?
Like I mentioned two of us, school mates, Alex(Echo-insti nick) and Neeraj are going to cycle 1000kms within kerala in a span of 20 days, the trip starting around dec 5th - 8th. We intent to get back home before Christmas. We will not just go cycle. We would recording the entire trip, in text , pictures and video, so that you get a feel about how much fun the whole concept is. We would also be geotagging the pictures and videos, so that you exactly know where they have been taken from. Every day's route that we have completed would be plotted on google maps with time stamp, so that you can find out at what time where we, at a certain place, how much time did we take to go from one place to another ... all that kind of stuff... the kind of stuff that would make sense. I have already placed the order for a gps data logger.Hope ebay ships it to me before the trip starts. I guess that is the complete view of what we are doing-Take pictures, take videos , write travel blog, geo locate all these and plot them on a map. Yup thats what we will do...
So what can you expect from this website?
Imagine someone goes touring and he puts up a google map on which his exact route is traced on day to day basis and all pictures and videos are click able from the google map. Find out where exactly was a pic taken. Find out what time did we go through a particular location. Find out when did we post on the blog from. Find out how much distance did we cover today. Find out where we stayed. Find out every minute detail. This is what we are aiming at, and this is what you can expect. :)
So why are we doing this?
Now this is a question that is very subjective. Why can't we just sit at home and watch TV, do some internet business. No, both of us are people who love to travel. We wanted to something major and add an element that no body else have done.. Lots of poeple would have gone long distance cycling, but a website with day to day update and geotagged stuff and routes... i dont know.. I have not seen any till now... Maybe we are the first, maybe not ... atleast it looks like fun. Now we had a choice between long distance biking, cycling or a lakshadweep trip this december. The first two options does look more sane and feasible :P but that involves cash(which we dont have) and is stuff that everybody does, no big deal. Okay if thats the case, then lets go cycle... more of a test of human endurance too... can we make it?? 1000kms isn't that a little too much ?? We think its possible. If all goes well we will complete it. From what we found out, not much people have done this kind of stuff...not many in India, there are more crazier foreigners, but definitely none in mallu land, maybe there are , but non that i know of..
So whats the inspiration?
There was this couple from New Zealand that traveled from somewhere in China to New Delhi in 3 months time, if i remember right. It turned up in the back page of Hindu newspaper sometime back. They covered a total of about 3500 kms. Imagine the experience that they had, makes much more sense than going to some five start hotel in some tourist location. You get to experience the place better. This kind of stuff is not exactly warmly welcomed in our culture, why the hell do u want to go cycling of all things?? You are an engineer , keep your standard... use a car... what would people think?? what the ...? Maybe with this website we can change that a little bit, maybe .. a little too optimistic here ... but lets see... maybe we can make people realize that cycling is fun, just like biking... more of human endurance also involved in this one though.. Haa so back to the inspiration stuff ... so was googling when I found out that two chennai-iets did sometime thing really awesome way back in 1980. They went cycling all around europe for a period of 9 months. Awesome.. Insanely pseud stuff.. Check out their website- http://vaidyashok.com/vaiash/tag/europe-trip/
If there were crazy people back then, and they have done such crazy stuff, we can definitely do at least this much. So here we are, going to cycle a 1000 kms in the state of Kerala, this December.Stay tuned...
:P :P :P
So whats the final status??
We talked to TI cycles about our plan and they seems to have liked it. They would be providing us with 2 cycles. As of now they has promised to give us Hercules ACT 110 plus. Very pseud performance cycle by Hercules around 12k. More on this when we actually get it. So we are doing this trip, unless one of us gets really sick with some deadly decease, which we hope wont happen.
So if you managed to read to the bottom of this post, which happens to be one the first blog post that i have taken time to write, do comment. Was this all crap or was it worth reading?
